Flare Gas Recovery Project was awarded by ONGC for having a standby for their Old Flare Gas Compressor Unit at ONGC Uran. The project had to be built in a gas processing plant which was more than 40 years old.
The project was awarded on EPC basis covering the scope of Engineering the entire Gas Compression Plant to construction and commissioning. The major equipment was a fully flooded Oil Screw Compressor from Howden, UK, coupled with 1 MW motor along with complete electrical and instrumentation system with BN Machine monitoring System controlled by High end SIL-3 PLC system. HT and LT Panel modifications, OWS system, DCS integration with ONGC’s existing DCS System was also part of the scope of work. Savair had to face challenges during the process design as the suction pressure was as low as 0.02 - 0.04 kg/cm2, coming up with an efficient piping system to handle such low pressure was a task which Savair completed successfully and construction in the hazardous area under challenging conditions.

Challenges
The First challenge was working in a 40 year old plant and the project site was also very close to the compressor house where extra safety measures were required as it was one of the most hazardous zone of the entire plant. The Two challenges in the project was to carry out the job in the Brown field without interrupting the working of Existing FGRU & same time adhering to all safety requirements and plant had to be hooked up with hot tapping of large pipe lines. The project was completed successfully with zero accidents.
